How to design your Recruitment Pipeline dashboard, widget by widget.

A hiring funnel is mostly counts and one grouping column - candidates by stage, by role, by recruiter. Here’s how those cards come together, built using the real Recruitment Pipeline template.

The building blocks

Five widget types cover almost every dashboard. Each one needs a specific shape of column.

KPIOne numeric column, summed, averaged, or countedcandidate → Hired
ChartA date or category column, plus a measureapplied_date + candidate → trend
MatrixTwo category columns and one measurerole + stage + candidate
RankingA category column and a measure, rankedsource + candidate → top sources
Detail tableWhichever columns people need to inspectall 12 columns, sortable and filterable

Two ways to build every widget

Point and click

Add widget → pick a type → fill in Title, Value column, Calculation, and Format → Review → Add widget. Three steps, and every field has a default to start from.

Describe it

Type what you want in plain English. This is the faster path for anything the point-and-click form doesn't have a field for yet - like a second, smaller comparison number on a KPI.

Worked example: Recruitment Pipeline

01

Start from the CSV

This guide uses a handful of the sample's columns: candidate, requisition_id, stage, role, recruiter, source, applied_date, days_in_process.

02

Count a subset: Hired

Add widget → KPI. Value column: candidate. Calculation: count. Format: number. Add a filter: stage is Hired. Without that filter, count would just be every candidate in the CSV - the filter is what scopes it to one stage.

03

Rank where candidates come from

Add widget → Ranking. Rank by: source. Value: candidate. Calculation: count. Format: number. Show top: 5. That’s "Sources by Candidates."

04

See every role’s pipeline at once

Add widget → Matrix. Rows: role. Columns: stage. Value: candidate. Calculation: count. That’s "Role × Stage" - shown here for 3 of the 5 roles and 4 of the 6 stages.

All Records: click View for the complete record

Every row in the All Records table has a View button that opens the complete record - every column, right away, no setup required.

A richer version - a proper title and subtitle instead of "Record 1", a few summary numbers, and a section listing every other row sharing the same value in one column - happens automatically. While your dashboard is being designed, csv.design looks for a stable identifier column and wires the connection up on its own.

Here it matches on recruiter.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Only numbers add up.Sum and average work on numeric columns only - text columns like role or stage can be counted or grouped, not summed.
  • Winner picks a group, not a plain total."Top Source" doesn’t sum anything - it groups by source and shows whichever one has the highest count. Use Winner only when the request names a single top performer, not a general breakdown.
  • Count adds up rows, not a column."Hired" isn’t a count of the stage column - it’s a count of rows where stage is Hired. Without that filter, count just shows every candidate.
